What courses are available?

Matrix offers English and Maths syllabus-aligned courses for Year 5 students.

Note that Matrix courses run a term ahead of school, so students should enrol in Matrix Term 1 courses in October, when they are in Year 4 Term 4 at school.

The schedule for the year is as follows:

English

  • Matrix Term 1 (October): Comparing and Contrasting Texts

  • Matrix Term 2 (February): Advanced Imaginative Writing

  • Matrix Term 3 (April): Advanced Persuasive Writing

  • Matrix Term 4 (July): Advanced Informative Writing

Note: the Term and online English courses are different to the holiday courses. For details on the holiday courses, please see here.

  • Matrix Term 2 (February): Representing Numbers, Operations and Quantity Fractions

  • Matrix Term 3 (April): Measurement and 2D Spatial Structure

  • Matrix Term 4 (July): Measurement and Non-Spatial Structure

Who are these courses for?

These courses are ideal for students who:

  • Want to build strong foundational writing and mathematical skills early

  • Want to build confidence in their abilities

  • Need additional help to stay ahead of their schoolwork

  • Want to nurture their keen interest in Maths and/or English

Selective School Test Preparation course

Matrix also offer courses specifically for Selective School test preparation for Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 students. For more information on these courses, visit Selective School Test Preparation Courses.

What is the course format?

The English, Maths and Selective School Test Preparation Courses are offered as On Campus courses and Matrix+ (online) courses. The course content is the same for both, so students can choose the delivery method that best suits them.

On Campus courses run during the school Term, over 9 lessons, each 1.5 hours in duration.

Online courses can be taken at any time.

Each course is divided into 3x3 lesson blocks. Each three lesson block focuses on one subset of topics for two lessons, and assesses the students’ understanding in the third lesson, so as to provide feedback.

Note: Course availability may vary slightly each year and term. Refer to the Matrix website or enrolment form for the most up to date information on courses and classes.
