Matrix Year 7 courses are designed to help students build strong foundations in English and Maths from the beginning of high school. With expert teachers, structured lessons, and ongoing support, students gain the skills and confidence they need to thrive throughout their secondary education.

Course Structure

  • Duration: 9 weeks per term

  • Lesson Length: 1.5 hours per week

Year 7 English Course

The Year 7 English course focuses on developing analytical reading and writing skills aligned with the NSW syllabus. Students learn to interpret a variety of texts and express their ideas with clarity and purpose.

Term Topics:

  • Term 1: Introduction to Reading Texts – graphic novels, fables, and fantasy prose

  • Term 2: Analysing Texts – poetry, science fiction, and film

  • Term 3: Persuasive Language – advertising, journalism, speeches, and reviews

  • Term 4: Introduction to Shakespeare – Elizabethan context, drama conventions, and poetic language

Year 7 Mathematics Course

The Year 7 Mathematics course equips students with problem-solving skills and a deep understanding of key mathematical principles. The program aligns with the NSW curriculum while extending students through challenging questions and exam-style practice.

Term Topics

  • Term 1: Directed Numbers, Fractions, Decimals and Percentages

  • Term 2: Algebraic Techniques, Financial Maths, Ratios, and Time

  • Term 3: Algebraic Equations, Angles, Geometry, Length, and Area

  • Term 4: Linear Relationships, Data, and Pythagoras’ Theorem

Holiday Courses

Matrix offers 5-day Holiday Skills-based Courses for Year 7 students in English and Maths. Each course runs for 2 hours per day and focuses on developing essential skills that reinforce term learning and prepare students for the term ahead.

These holiday programs are ideal for students who want to:

  • Deep-dive into an fundamental skill with step-by-step instruction

  • Build a complete understanding of how and when to apply it

  • Strengthen confidence through practice and feedback

  • Lay the groundwork for future success in class and assessments
