Year 8 is a pivotal year in high school, where students consolidate foundational skills and prepare for more advanced concepts in English and Mathematics. Year 8 English Course

The Year 8 English course focuses on enhancing analytical reading and writing skills, aligned with the NSW syllabus. Students engage with a variety of texts to develop critical thinking and effective communication.

Term Topics

  • Term 1: Journalism and Poetry – Exploring stereotypes, feature articles, and in-depth poetry analysis

  • Term 2: Texts Through Time – Studying traditional stories, prose narratives, and films

  • Term 3: Representation and Perspective – Examining themes like the military, consumerism, gender, and Australian fiction

  • Term 4: Shakespeare – Analyzing 'Romeo and Juliet' and understanding values in Shakespeare's time

Year 8 Mathematics Course

The Year 8 Mathematics course aims to deepen understanding of mathematical concepts and enhance problem-solving skills, following the NSW curriculum.

Term Topics

  • Term 1: Indices, Algebraic Techniques, and Linear Relationships

  • Term 2: Equations, Rates, Length, and Area

  • Term 3: Algebraic Techniques, Properties of Geometrical Figures, Volume, and Capacity

  • Term 4: Probability, Similarity, and Financial Mathematics

Holiday Courses

Matrix offers 5-day Holiday Skills-based Courses for Year 8 students in English and Maths. Each course runs for 2 hours per day and focuses on developing essential skills that reinforce term learning and prepare students for the term ahead.

These holiday programs are ideal for students who want to:
