Year 11 marks the beginning of the HSC journey, introducing students to the rigours of senior high school. It's a critical year where students build foundational knowledge and skills essential for Year 12 success. Matrix Education offers structured courses in English, Mathematics, and Science to support students through this transition, ensuring they are well-prepared and confident.

Course Structure

  • Duration: 9 weeks per term

  • Lesson Length:

    • English Advanced, Biology, Chemistry, Physics: 1.5 hours per week

    • Mathematics Advanced, Mathematics Extension 1: 3 hours per week

  • Delivery Modes:

    • On-Campus: In-person classes at Matrix campuses

Year 11 English Advanced

The Year 11 English Advanced course hones students' analytical reading and writing skills, aligning with the NSW syllabus. Students engage with a variety of texts to develop critical thinking and effective communication.

  • Term 1: How To Be a Better Writer

    • Approach discursive and imaginative writing tasks with confidence

    • Designed for Standard and Advanced English students

  • Term 2: Common Module: Reading to Write

    • Develop written style by studying various writers and composition styles

    • Designed for Standard and Advanced English students

  • Term 3: Module A: Narratives that Shape Our World

    • Understand relationships between context, meaning, and value

    • Designed for Advanced English students only

  • Term 4: Module B: Critical Study of Literature

    • Enhance appreciation of literature through close study of prose fiction

    • Designed for Advanced English students only

Year 11 Mathematics Standard

The Year 11 Mathematics Standard course focuses on practical applications of Maths in everyday life, such as budgeting, interpreting data, and measurement. It’s ideal for students who want to strengthen numeracy skills without the abstract concepts covered in Advanced or Extension courses.

Year 11 Mathematics Advanced

The Mathematics Advanced course develops students' understanding of algebraic techniques, functions, and calculus, preparing them for the HSC.

Year 11 Mathematics Extension 1

This course extends upon the Advanced course, introducing new concepts including complex algebra, proofs, and advanced calculus topics.

Year 11 Chemistry

Year 11 Physics

Physics covers the fundamental principles of motion, forces, energy, and electricity.

Holiday Courses

Matrix offers Holiday Accelerated Courses (HAC) for Year 11 students in English, Mathematics, and Science. These intensive 5 or 9-lesson programs are delivered during the school holidays and cover a full term’s content.

HAC is perfect for students who want to make the most of their break - either by learning the next term’s material early or revising the previous term's content to get a complete understanding. This allows students to stay on top of schoolwork, reduce stress, and feel more confident in class.
