Summary

Matrix’s Year 3 courses help students build strong writing and maths skills through focussed courses that align with the Stage 2 syllabus.

What courses are available?

Matrix offers English and Maths syllabus-aligned courses for Year 3 students.

Note that Matrix courses run a term ahead of school, so students should enrol in Matrix Term 1 courses in October, when they are in Year 2 Term 4 at school.

The schedule for the year is as follows:

English

  • Matrix Term 1 (October): NAPLAN Preparation

  • Matrix Term 2 (February): Novel Study: Analysing Literature

  • Matrix Term 3 (April): Introduction to Imaginative Writing

  • Matrix Term 4 (July): Introduction to Persuasive Writing

Note: the Term and online English courses are different to the holiday courses. For details on the holiday courses, please see here.

Maths

  • Matrix Term 1 (October): Application of Number and Connected Ideas

  • Matrix Term 2 (February): Whole Number, Additive and Multiplicative Foundations

  • Matrix Term 3 (April): Operations and Fractions

  • Matrix Term 4 (July): Number, Data and Time

For information on OC Prep Courses see here.

What is the course format?

The English and Maths syllabus-aligned courses are offered as face-to-face courses and Matrix+ (online) courses. The course content is the same for both, so students can choose the delivery method that best suits them.

Face-to-face courses run during the school Term, over 9 lessons, each 1.5 hours in duration.

Online courses can be taken at any time.

Each course is divided into three x three-lesson blocks. Each three lesson block focuses on one subset of topics for two lessons, and assesses the students’ understanding in the third lesson, so as to provide feedback.

Note: Course availability may vary slightly each year and term. Refer to the Matrix website or enrolment form for the most up to date information on courses and classes.

Who are these courses for?

These courses are ideal for students who:

  • Want to build strong foundational writing and mathematical skills early

  • Want to build confidence in their abilities

  • Need additional help to stay ahead of their schoolwork
